Continuing in my long-term goal of cornering the global textile market, I synthesize rayon using the cuprammonium method.
We will dissolve cotton balls (90% cellulose) in Schweizer’s Reagent, a dark blue and extremely viscous copper-ammonium reagent. The reagent will be injected into a sulfuric acid solution and be reborn as rayon.
While not “technically” a green chemistry experiment, one can imagine a world where textile waste is recycled in a similar process.
